Another tour finished, a band one to come!

Dear all,

Well that’s a UK solo tour over. What a jolly fine one it was too and I really did enjoy myself playing lots of new material alongside some familiar favourites. I was glad the new ones seemed to be a hit, means hopefully people will approve of my new record later in the year! I’m curious as to why I always call it a record…after all it isn’t anymore but anyway you get the idea. Lots of exciting stuff coming up, principally…

IT’S SOON TIME FOR MY FIRST URBAN FOLK QUARTET TOUR! Incidentally, I deliberately put caps lock on there to emphasise my excitement. I’ve been having some severe rehearsals with the UFQ and we’re loving the sound of it and very excited about taking it out on the road. The dates are as follows:

Exciting stuff and a couple of solo festivals in amongst May as well at Chippenham and a return to Rock’n’Bowl. It’s great to be part of a band I’ve admired for so long and I can’t wait for you all to hear it now.

Anyway a round up of my recent goings on. I’ve been driving a LOT which I could live without but the gigs I don’t think I could! It started off in Oxfordshire at the White Horse Live in Stonesfield and what a belter of a gig this was. Thank you so much to all of you, it was an absolutely packed house and I had a ball. Also had a nice beer, cheese and chat session afterwards with the hosts! Two days later it was back to a familiar venue Hales Club in Market Drayton which surpassed itself! It’s always been a good gig but this really was fantastic and I had such a good time and lovely to hear Pete Wearn and Lydia O’Dowd again. Next up was to Minsterley in Shropshire, or near enough, to run an all day banjo workshop and do a gig at the appropriately named Gleanings Rural Study Centre. Both were very enjoyable indeed and the gig was one of those lovely intimate gigs that felt very special and relaxed.

To finish off a memorable tour, two gigs in Yorkshire with the legendary Alistair Anderson followed in Sheffield and York at Rivelin and Black Swan folk clubs respectively. That was possibly rather clumsily phrased but hopefully you can work it out. Both were crackers anyway and as ever it was an honour to play with the man himself. Finally, to finish it all off I was back on home turf at Market Vaults (used to be Joxers) in Stafford and a three hour set was well recieved and it reminded me just why this is such a special gig and place for me. God bless my town and its pub.
